Undis Drawing of Day Island

(Drawing by Kay Undis)

Welcome to wonderful Day Island. Our community is unique in its beauty, architecture, and geography. Day Island has three areas, West Blvd, East Blvd, and the South Spit.

The Day Island Club was originally established as mandatory membership for water rights from the island well. When Tacoma water was installed on the island, the club became voluntary. The membership is led by an elected leadership board. The club house and old well are located at 1965 E. Day Island Blvd.

We invite you to join our organization. The Day Island Club now operates as an Island social club, as well as working for the betterment of the island. It supports, maintains and sponsors the club building, the island entrance park, the Alert system, and a number of activities.

The club members plan various activities throughout the year. Some are more traditional, coming every year, and others are for a particular event. Fun activities at the club include various pot lucks, cocktail parties and special family events, such as the Christmas Pancake Breakfast with Santa and The Easter Egg Hunt with the Easter Bunny. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving, there is Holiday lighting in the park. For the 100th anniversary of Day Island we had a huge celebration with a big parade, hot dog roast, cocktail party, pot luck and historical information about the houses. Just about the entire island participated! Most years, on the second Saturday of June, we hold an island-wide community garage sale.

Become a member, get involved, have fun, support the community. The dues are $144per year per household. There is also a Day Island Reading Club. This women’s group originated in the early 20th century and is still going strong today.

If you have any questions, please call the membership committee of the club: Kathy Ziesmer at 253 222-1553 or Pat Laferriere at 565-7346.
